Mechanical Design Engineer – Medical Technology Sector

Established over 60 years ago, Mast Group Ltd. is a leading international manufacturer and supplier of medical diagnostics products for the diagnosis of infectious disease.  Our products are used throughout the NHS in the UK and worldwide.

To aid use of these diagnostic tests, Mast has developed a successful range of instrumentation, such as the Mast Uri®System which produces results in half the time of conventional testing, leading to improved patient treatment.  In addition to further developing this system, we have an active programme to develop and deliver instrumentation and diagnostic cartridges for use with our new rapid molecular test platform that will deliver patient results in less than one hour. 

We are looking for someone who has a minimum of five years’ experience of working in an industry sector related to mechanical or 3-D modelling design. You should have a degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design and Technology, Product Design Engineering or a relevant qualification

You must have proven experience of the full mechanical design process of a component from concept to final functional unit, together with proven experience in DFM and/or DFA and engineering project management.
Whilst you will be expected to successfully manage project deliverables in agreed timeframes, you should be able to demonstrate a ‘hands-on’ approach, so as well as understanding the theory and delivery of mechanical design, you also need to be willing to get your hands dirty and assemble prototypes etc.

Ideally you need to understand how to best design products so that subsequent manufacturing can be cost effective from low volume ramp-up to higher market penetration.
